Thanksgiving

We had a great, fun Thanksgiving. The weather was gorgeous, and we ended up spending much of the day outside. I think the most special part of the day was watching all the children play...there was some reminiscing among those from our generation : ) of Thanksgiving being just like that when they were younger. I have very similar, fond memories from my family holidays as well, and love watching Byrum get to have these experiences with his cousins.

Since we still have more visiting to enjoy (and have to get going!), here are just a few images from the day of the kids: We had a big family sleepover last night after all the festivities, and this morning Meme broke out a pretty cool gift - window markers! Let me tell you, this was a huge hit, especially for Mia, who was still creating window art long after the others had gone on to other fun things.

Happy weekend!

Byrum's tree

This little tree is gracing Byrum's room this holiday season...he picked it out himself, as well as the ornaments adorning it. He goes to sleep at night with the lights glowing (we turn them out after that)...isn't it beautiful?

Happy Thanksgiving! Blessings to you all.

The green quilt

A couple months ago, I began making a lap quilt for my Grandma Harraman, whose absolute favorite color was green. She made quilts for nearly everyone in our family, and was still doing so well into her 80s. I thought she might like one made especially for her.

The fabrics......putting the layers together......hand-stitching......a little help from the cats......attaching the binding (see the fabric on the back? It's so soft and cozy)......and here it is, completed! It makes sitting at the desk much more comfortable...
I wish my grandma had gotten the chance to enjoy it...she would have liked it, I believe. But it will be enjoyed and cherished here, just like the quilts she made.

A little something beautiful

It was like Christmas the other day when this bundle of beauty arrived at our house. So beautiful, in fact, that I simply had to take several photos of it : ) These are only a couple of the many.
This is a fat quarter bundle of Good Folks fabric from Anna Maria Horner. The sweetest thing is that Byrum was as excited as I was! There are many plans for this fabric...you'll see...

Tire swinging

We recently discovered the Kings Mountain Park, which has two tire swings...it immediately brought back memories from childhood...these swings were the best! They couldn't be found everywhere, but when they were, it was exhilarating to be pushed in a huge circle (higher!) and swung around to the point of dizziness...like controlled, wild flying : ) Everyone wanted a turn on the tire swing, so the experience was also filled with giddy anticipation of awaiting my turn...at this park, the tire swings are usually sitting empty, just beckoning us, so Byrum and I grab the chance to swing and swing until we simply have to take a rest.

Here's to happy swinging! Have a great weekend...
